From 2 to 10 January, during the winter holidays, with the support of the Agency for Sport of the Kaliningrad region and the regional chess federation (president Gahan D.V.) held the festival "Hope" named after I.A. Kopytovsky.
I.A. Kopytovsky - a veteran of World War II, was awarded with numerous medals and awards, has gone through the war, ending it in Budapest. After Victory he was sent for further service in Königsberg (back then it was Königsberg!), where he was involved in the organization of chess life. More than 50 years he was the head of the chess club Garrison House of Officers, organized and judged by virtually all the major events in the region, participated in the judging of the competition-Union.
He was in the judge-Union category. He has made a significant contribution to the development of chess in our region. 10 years ago Igor left us and in memory of him the winter festival is held in his name - "Hope." The festival was held four of the tournaments: A, B, C and D. In total, the festival was taken part by 239 young chess players.
And in the tournament (33 players) play a strong – students with the first and second rang. Classic Control, the Swiss system of 9 rounds. A bitter struggle for the 1st place failed. After earning 7.5 points out of 9 and not losing a single game, the first place was won by D. Dyatlov, beating the competitors who won 2-3 places - Subatovicha D. and M. Mkrtchyan - 6.5 points.
The festival was also attended by Y. Uzunov, Chetyrev M., Tashkenov G., A. Homkolov, Kuznetsova and D. Filipchik - all of them, even those who’re not the prize-winners, played decently. Congratulations to D. Dyatlov, and soon competition - III of the urban stage of the tournament, "White Castle" is on 25 of January.
